Environmental Certifications
They guarantee sustainable practices, reduce environmental impact, improve resource efficiency and strengthen corporate reputation.
AENOR offers the largest catalogue of environmental certificates, validations and verifications, which allow an organisation, in the activities it provides or the products it develops or markets, to accredit its commitment to the environment, minimising impacts and favouring better management of resources. The recognitions issued by AENOR also help to ensure that environmental commitment is also a factor of competitive differentiation.
AENOR's support for good practices in environmental matters ranges from general environmental management systems, such as ISO 14001, to those that address areas such as eco-design, energy management, or what is specific to its products, such as Environmental Product Declarations; or they are aimed at specific sectors, such as forestry. AENOR was ahead of the curve in supporting companies in their commitments arising from the Kyoto Protocol, being the first Spanish entity accredited to the UN.

Some of the environmental verifications and certifications that we offer at AENOR:
The Certification of Paper and Cardboard Collection and Recovery Centres, under the standard UNE 134001, includes a visit to the centre, a review of the documentation that ensures the proper control and monitoring of the processes, and a detailed inspection of the facilities.
The End-of-Waste Certification promotes the prevention, reuse and recovery of waste before taking it to landfill as a desirable last option; and ensures that a quality management system is in place, in which the quality requirements of the relevant regulations are met.
The Sustainable Mining Management Certification, in accordance with the standards UNE 22480:2019 and UNE 22470; 2019 allows for the systematic monitoring and control of sustainability indicators, complemented by those established in the main reference documents worldwide, for an adequate establishment of objectives for continuous improvement in the performance of sustainable mining.
The Operation Clean Sweep (OCS) Certification recognises companies that voluntarily make an active commitment to reducing waste in the environment, as well as raising awareness among their employees, while improving their working conditions. This voluntary initiative is implemented through ANAIP (Spanish Association of Plastics Industrialists), holder of the rights.
The Certification of Joint Implementation Projects, under the Kyoto Protocol, consists of the verification of full compliance with the requirements established by the Joint Implementation Supervisory Committee and by the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
The Validation and Verification of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects, under the Kyoto Protocol, consists of the verification of the full compliance by a project activity with the requirements established by the Executive Board of the Clean Development Mechanism and the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
The Regulatory Verification of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions, also under the Kyoto Protocol, turns commitment into an opportunity for those Spanish companies affected by the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS). To this end, the emissions and activity levels declared by the facility are checked, the accuracy of the monitoring systems applied and the data on the emissions considered is studied, and a Verification Report and Opinion is issued.
In addition, AENOR is also an accredited verification entity for sector 98 (no. 03/VV026), in accordance with the new application procedure for the free allocation of greenhouse gas emission rights for fixed installations in the period 2021-2030. With a Baseline Data Report (RDA) and a Methodological Monitoring Plan (WHO), you can you can request the Verification Report based on Implementing Regulation (EU) 2018/2067 and subsequent amendments, adopted by the European Commission.
AENOR offers a set of key certifications for the forestry sector, aimed at promoting sustainability, traceability and the responsible use of natural resources. These include FSC® and PEFC forest management and chain of custody certifications, which guarantee responsible practices in the exploitation of forests and ensure the sustainable origin of forest products. In addition, AENOR certifies solid biofuels through the BIOmasud (for domestic use) and ENplus (for wood pellets for thermal uses) schemes, thus promoting renewable energy alternatives. Finally, the EUTR 995 due diligence system helps organisations to comply with European regulations against the marketing of illegal timber.
