History of AENOR
AENOR has a history of nearly 40 years accompanying companies in their search for excellence and quality. Over more than two decades, the entity has evolved and adapted to the needs of the market, expanding its services to promote continuous improvement in organizations. This evolution not only benefits the business fabric, but also contributes to the development and well-being of society as a whole.
AENOR as a commercial entity
In 1986, the Spanish Association for Standardization and Certification emerged as a result of the need to adapt the country's standardization and certification system to international and European standards. Its creation was driven by the economic transformation and the integration of Spain into the European Economic Community (EEC), which required a body that would guarantee the quality and competitiveness of Spanish products and services.
AENOR was established as a private, non-profit entity, with the aim of developing technical standards, certifying products, services and management systems, and promoting quality improvement in different industrial and commercial sectors.

At the origin of AENOR's conformity assessment activity is product certification, which evolves in accordance with new market requirements. There is a clear orientation to follow this commitment with the most prominent industrial sectors of the country.
In 2024, AENOR's new corporate structure comes into force; a movement that, without entailing changes in the way services are provided, boosts their ability to provide solutions to organizations. The new corporate structure is aimed at boosting AENOR's ability to support its customers, enhancing both the variety of solutions offered and through the creation of new ones. Notably, in the field of advanced inspection, consulting and IT solutions.
Confidere Corporation
The holding company Confidere is linked to three companies divided by areas of specialty: AENOR Confia, AENOR Conocimiento and Cámara Certifica.
AENOR Confia is focused on businesses related to conformity assessment.
For its part, AENOR Conocimiento works in the fields of training, sectoral information services, international projects and consultancy for management systems and business transformation.
Regarding Cámara Certifica, it mainly serves the segment of small companies and micro-SMEs in certification.

More than 91,000 certified workplaces
The AENOR Group as a whole has nearly 40,000 management system certificates in force, distributed in more than 91,000 workplaces in 87 countries. The three most numerous certifications remain the most widely used worldwide:
In terms of product certification, more than 121,000 are currently certified, of which nearly 71,000 have the AENOR N Mark. The certificates that have grown the most are those of Traceability and Recycled Plastic Content. And nearly 200 certificates have the AENOR N Sustainable Mark.

As has been happening in recent years, the certifications that have grown the most are those that recognize the commitment of organizations to values that society appreciates.
