What is AENOR's Sustainable Building Certification?
The AENOR Sustainable Building certification guarantees efficient, safe and environmentally friendly constructions, promoting sustainability and quality in the real estate sector.
Designed to lead the change towards a more sustainable architecture.
AENOR's Sustainable Building Certification marks a milestone in the construction sector by assessing the responsible use of sustainable materials, based on environmental, social and governance criteria aligned with the standards of the AENOR N Sustainable brand for construction products, also contemplating the analysis of the building's performance according to the criteria set by the EU with the LEVEL(s) framework and the Green Taxonomy.
This new AENOR badge has the necessary breadth of vision to provide the right response to a new way of doing things, as it promotes the commitment of sustainable construction and architecture to the future and the values of society.
Sustainable Building is a certification that generates trust among citizens, public administrations and investors that guarantees the development of a responsible project in all phases of its life cycle.

The certification process is based on a comprehensive assessment of the building, using the LEVEL(s) indicators developed by the European Union, in line with the European Taxonomy.

The Sustainable Building certification applies to new construction, rehabilitation or refurbishment projects, both in the residential field and in other building typologies, recognising its commitment to sustainability in all phases of the life cycle.
New AENOR Sustainable Building certification
AENOR's Sustainable Building certification is distinguished by its comprehensive approach based on ESG (environmental, social and good governance) criteria, applied throughout the building's useful life. This certification generates trust among citizens, public administrations and investors, and actively contributes to the fulfilment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established in the 2030 Agenda
BASES OF THE AENOR SUSTAINABLE BUILDING CERTIFICATION
The AENOR Sustainable Building certification model is structured around two main foundations:
1. Evaluation of materials:
Focused on identifying and verifying those materials that comply with recognised sustainability criteria, such as the AENOR N Sustainable Mark, the N Mark and ESG principles. To this end, technical evidence such as the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) and certifications such as UNE-EN ISO 14001 are considered, which accredit the manufacturer's environmental management, among other requirements that demonstrate its responsible performance.
2. Building performance:
Approach based on the evaluation of sustainability indicators defined in the European LEVEL(s) framework and aligned with the criteria of the European Taxonomy. This methodology considers environmental, social and governance (ESG) aspects throughout the entire life cycle of the building, providing a comprehensive view of its performance and contribution to sustainability. Depending on the level of compliance achieved, the building is eligible for one of four levels of certification, which reflect its degree of commitment to responsible construction aligned with European standards.
