What is the AENOR N Sustainable Mark?

The AENOR N Sustainable Mark is the first sustainability certification in Spain. Its objective is to promote the transformation of industrial sectors towards a greater commitment to sustainability in environmental, social and governance aspects.

It is based on the AENOR N Mark quality certification, adding European sustainability criteria (Level(s)). AENOR analyses at least 20 indicators and the result is a numerical index that reflects sustainable commitment, is assessable over time and promotes continuous improvement in the sector.

Developers, construction companies, associations and consumers trust that the products meet the quality, safety and durability requirements established in the standards, complementary to the mandatory CE marking for products subject to European Directives or Regulations.

This certification is key for manufacturers to adapt to European strategies and is aligned with the requirements to access European Next Generation funds.

Structure

The first AENOR N Sustainable Mark certificates were issued in June 2022 to 14 factories in the Spanish steel sector, confirming their commitment to an ESG (ESG: Environmental, Social and Good Governance) approach, which has been followed by the other sectors involved in the construction of buildings.

The AENOR N Mark for certified product

It is a symbol granted by AENOR as an independent and leading entity in certification.
It is a brand recognized and valued by all of society, whether they are public or private users, thus facilitating marketing worldwide, with more than 100,000 certified products.
It is a particularly valuable guarantee for the customer or end user in the case of products not subject to march CE.
It provides the market with products that exceed the basic requirements of the CE marking regulation and the minimum standards of quality. This is the case in certain sectors, such as low-voltage electrical equipment in general (with the exception of cables) and certain non-structural construction products, where it is the manufacturer itself that declares compliance with the standards, which makes it even more valuable, if possible, to voluntarily certify products with the AENOR N Mark, by subjecting products to strict controls and tests prior to the AENOR certificate.

To certify each product, AENOR develops a particular certification system in which the requirements to be met by the products are indicated: the standards and technical specifications, the certification procedures (frequency of audits, inspections and tests) and the particularities applicable to each family of products.
