Validation and Verification of projects under the requirements of the Verified Carbon Standard program

Under VCS, projects receive one-time carbon credits known as verified carbon units or VCUs. Each VCU represents a reduction or removal of one ton of CO2e  carbon dioxide equivalent achieved by a project.

AENOR, as a validation and verification body,  evaluates projects according to the rules of the VCS Programme and the requirements of the methodology applied. The evaluation carried out by AENOR is independent, which is essential to guarantee the integrity of the projects registered in the VCS Programme. All VCS projects complete a rigorous development and evaluation process prior to enrolling in the VCS Program.

Depending on the service contracted, once the audit process has been completed, the client obtains a validation or verification report for management before the VCS Registry.

Integration with other systems

VCS validation or verification can be done integrated with CCBS, Climate, Community & Biodiverse Standards validation or verification. These standards identify projects that simultaneously address climate change, support local communities and smallholder farmers, and conserve biodiversity.
