ISO 22000 Food Safety Standard
ISO 22000 specifies the requirements that a management system must meet to ensure food safety.
Food Safety, everyone's responsibility
The Standard UNE-EN ISO 22000: 2018 specifies the requirements that a management system must meet to ensure food safety throughout the entire food chain from the point of sale to final consumption.
There are four main lines on which the 2018 version focuses:
-
Adaptation to the High-Level structure, common to ISO management standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001...) to facilitate integration with other management systems.
-
New risk-based approach at 2 levels: management of organizational risks (finance, productivity, stakeholders, etc.) and risk-based approach in the operational scope of the system HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points)
-
Modification and clarification of requirements (communication, emergency management, selection of control measures, control plan for PCC Critical Control Points and PPR Prerequisite Programs or validation of control measures).
-
PDCA cycle of continuous improvement. Two cycles PDCA that work together, one covering the management system and the other of the principles of < a href="/certification/companies/food/haccp-critical-points">HACCP.
Food Safety UNE-EN ISO 22000
Due to its structure based on risk management, ISO 22000 certification can be integrated with UNE-EN ISO 9001, as well as any food safety standard: FSSC, BRC, IFS, etc.

If you are also an exporter of agri-food products, you should know the FSMA Food Safety Modernization Act of 2016, drafted by the FDA of the United States, which seeks to improve the food safety of food, particularly those from third countries. This law establishes the requirements for the export of agri-food products destined for the United States, while at the same time facilitating companies' consolidation in the American market.
