FSSC 22000 Schematic

It is a complete certification scheme for food safety management systems based on existing standards ISO 22000, ISO 22003 and technical specifications for Prerequisite Programs of the relevant sector (food production, manufacture of packaging for the food industry or for Food Transport and Storage).

In addition, there are a number of additional requirements set out in the FSSC scheme relating to specifications for services, staff supervision, management of input materials, food defence, fraud prevention, allergen management, labelling, environmental control.

Organizations that obtain the FSSC certificate are listed in the FSSC Register of Certified Organizations, which is publicly accessible (https://www.fssc22000.com/certified-organizations/).

FSSC has implemented a new unique COID (Certified Organization Identification Code) for each certified company in order to maintain the traceability of certified organizations. These codes are available in FSSC database www.fssc22000.com

The FSSC 22000 scheme is approved by the Global Food Safety Initiative just like other food safety schemes, such as BRCGS or IFS.

Along with this certification, AENOR gives the possibility of obtaining additional certificates of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and/or GMP based on the Codex Alimentarius. Learn how to get all three certificates.

If you are also an exporter of agri-food products, you should know the FSMA Food Safety Modernization Act of 2016, drafted by the FDA of the United States, which seeks to improve the food safety of food, particularly those from third countries. This law establishes the requirements for the export of agri-food products destined for the United States, while at the same time facilitating companies' consolidation in the American market.

Sectors and experience of the Certification

  2. Processing of perishable vegetable products (e.g . fruits, fresh juices, vegetables, grains, nuts and legumes)
  3. Processing of mixed products of animal and vegetable origin (e.g. pizza, lasagna, sandwiches, pastries, ready-to-eat food)

Integration with other systems

Due to its structure based on risk management, the FSSC-22000 certification is easy to integrate into any process management system such as UNE-EN ISO 9001.

It can also be carried out in conjunction with food safety audits of the private protocols of the European Large-Scale Distribution such as BRCGS(Global Standard for Food Safety) e IFS (International Featured Standards) in their standards for both food production and packaging, since these include requirements for a food safety system.

AENOR now offers the opportunity to obtain, together with this certification, the certificates of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and/or GMP based on the Codex Alimentarius. Learn how to get all three certificates.
