BRCGS Certifications

BRC certificate for distributors and department stores to qualify their suppliers and guarantee the safety, quality and legality of their food.

Guarantee of legality, safety and quality of manufactured products

BRCGS V.9 VERSION:

The BRCGS scheme is one of the most widespread models internationally for distributors and large stores to qualify their suppliers of own-brand products, ensuring that they comply with requirements that guarantee the safety, quality, and legality of their food.

The focus of Edition 9 continues to be to orient audits towards verifying the application of good manufacturing practices. The vast majority of the requirements have not been substantially modified, with minor modifications being made to the wording to clarify different aspects.

Some of the most relevant changes in version 9 are: the requirements of the food safety culture have been revised, the wording of the requirements on HACCP, subcontracting, equipment has been updated, the content of the BRCGS working group statement on additional requirements for the primary conversion of animals has been incorporated, and the requirements of the standard have been color-coded. On the other hand, a mandatory unannounced audit is included every 3 years, within the modality of announced audits, as well as an announced mixed audit option has been introduced to incorporate remote assessment into the audit process.

More BRCGS certifications

BRCGS Packaging Materials

This certification is aimed at producers of packaging and packaging materials that are used in the manufacture of food, beverages and feed, consumer products susceptible to hygiene considerations (such as cosmetics and pharmaceuticals), and raw materials and other consumer products, such as single-use disposable products.

BRCGS Storage and Distribution

This Protocol applies to those companies that participate in the storage and distribution of food and non-food products

BRCGS Agents and Brokers

This Protocol applies to those companies that participate as brokers, agents or service providers, importers, exporters within the food chain.

Companies in the food sector must have the necessary systems in place to identify and control hazards that may negatively affect food safety through a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) system and with the firm commitment of the company's management team. AENOR offers the possibility of obtaining immediately, together with the BRCGS Food, BRCGS Packaging or BRCGS Storage & Distribution certifications, the certificates of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and/or GMP based on the Codex Alimentarius. Find out how  obtain the certificates.

If you are also an exporter of agri-food products, you should know the FSMA Food Safety Modernization Act of 2016, drafted by the FDA of the United States, which seeks to improve the food safety of food, particularly those from third countries. This law establishes the requirements for the export of agri-food products destined for the United States, while at the same time facilitating companies' consolidation in the American market.

BRCGS Plant Based

The trend in terms of the increase in the consumption of vegan and vegetarian products and the increase in the demand on these products and their manufacturers have required certifications in relation to this type of product. Brand owners want to build trust and improve transparency about the claims made and ensure that robust systems are in place to reduce cross-contamination, leading to the demand for a specific certification, through this module, which is compatible not only with a BRCGS Food audit but also with any other GFSI approved standard and with the Global Markets Programme (intermediate level).

The Plant Based certification program includes a comprehensive management system approach and provides a framework for manufacturers to assist them in the production of plant-based food ingredients. It includes the necessary operational criteria to ensure that these products are free of material of animal origin.

Sectors and experience of the Certification

Related Industries

It is aimed at companies that supply any agri-food product, with its own brand, in phases after primary production.

Our experience

AENOR is an Entity recognized by distribution chains having issued hundreds of certificates in BRCGS . AENOR has the ISO/IEC 17065:2012 accreditation from ENAC for the BRCGS Protocols , as indicated in the technical annex to the ENAC website, except BRCGS Consumer Products.

Integration with other systems

Due to the structure of the scheme and the high level of agreement with food safety requirements, it is easy to integrate with the certification of the  IFS (International Food Standard) protocol and the < a href="/certification/companies/food/food-safety">UNE EN-ISO 22000 (Food Safety Management Systems) as well as FSSC 22000 certification, with the possibility of integrating the systems and thus optimizing processes with the consequent reduction of audit times and costs.

It can also be carried out in conjunction with audits of ISO 9001 (Quality Management Systems).
