What aspects does Animal Welfare take into consideration?

Unlike other animal welfare schemes, audits are based on direct observation of the animal itself, through the evaluation of 4 principles: good nutrition, good housing, good health and appropriate behavior. Within these 4 principles, 12 different but complementary measurable animal welfare criteria are identified. Each animal species is assessed in accordance with the Welfare Quality and AWIN® protocols by expert auditors on each animal, authorised and qualified by the Welfair® scheme.

How to obtain the Animal Welfare certificate?

Following a detailed evaluation, a score is obtained that indicates the level at which the audited farm and/or establishment operates. To obtain certification, it is necessary to meet a minimum level established for each case. This certification guarantees compliance with the requirements established in Welfare Quality and AWIN®, certifications ensure a thorough audit at every stage of production and maximum information and transparency for the consumer. Continuous improvement, self-monitoring, and traceability are also comprehensively covered by the certification.

What is the Welfair® scheme?

The Welfair® scheme based on Welfare Quality and AWIN® entails the complete assessment of animal welfare through the Welfare Quality and AWIN protocols®, as well as strict compliance with the European legislation on animal welfare in force at any given time, or another equivalent or higher, in those cases where there is stricter legislation locally, in addition to all those requirements that are detailed in its General Regulations.

In the case of countries outside the EU with animal welfare legislation with different or no standards of demand to those in Europe, mandatory minimum animal welfare prerequisites have been established, incorporating a distinction on the label, Welfair® LATAM, as a sign of identity and differentiation from the original certification mark.
