Carbon Footprint Certification
Obtaining the Carbon Footprint Certification demonstrates our commitment to sustainability, measuring and reducing our emissions to contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment.
Carbon Footprint: what it is and how it is measured
The Product Carbon Footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that are generated in each of the phases of the product's life cycle (from the extraction of the raw materials that compose it to the destination when the product is abandoned).
There are currently various standards, references and guides for the calculation of the Carbon Footprint of products, both general and sectoral, promoted by various public or private institutions of recognized prestige. For example, PAS 2050, GHG Protocol, ISO 14067, International Wine Protocol, etc.
This verification, by third party, of the calculated emissions of Greenhouse Gases of the product, is the first step towards other subsequent ones with greater environmental benefit, such as the reduction of emissions – via reduction projects – or the compensation of them (which also indirectly implies reduction, through projects that generate reductions with which to offset emissions).
Calculated and offset carbon footprint: a step towards sustainability
Calculating and offsetting the carbon footprint is essential to move towards a sustainable future, reducing environmental impact and promoting responsible practices in all industries.

Our commitment to a sustainable and carbon-neutral future drives concrete actions to reduce emissions, promote clean energy and ensure a healthier planet for future generations.
Request informationCarbon Footprint Measurement in Companies
Product/service verifications for the measurement of the Carbon Footprint can be of four types:
-
Calculated CO2: certifies the veracity of the calculation of the Carbon Footprint of a product/service, i.e. the set of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions generated by a product/service throughout its life cycle.
-
Reduced CO2: the organization has to demonstrate that its product/service has been reduced compared to the previous year and its right to use is granted annually.
Sectors and experience in Certification
Our experience
AENOR has awarded the CO2 Calculated seal to more than 150 product references worldwide
-
With regard to compensation, AENOR has awarded the CO2 Offset seal to more than a dozen events, including Carbón Expo Barcelona (2009)
-
Carbón Expo Colonia (2010) or the COP of LIMA
Integration with other systems
AENOR will prepare a Verification Report and the AENOR Certificate of calculated, compensated or reduced CO2 emissions will be issued. The organisation obtains the licence to use the Calculated, Compensated or Reduced CO2 Emissions seal that guarantees its voluntary commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, collaborating with other organisations in the fight against climate change.
Related Industries
The Carbon Footprint is applicable to products, services, organizations, transportation, buildings, and events.
