This document specifies requirements for the cleaning or disinfection cleaning of surfaces in hospitals and other health care facilities and provides guidance on effective and efficient performance. Note 1 Medical facilities covered by this document include hospitals, outpatient surgery facilities, preventive or rehabilitation facilities, dialysis facilities, day clinics, Maternity facilities. This document specifies the quality of structure, process and result for the cleaning or disinfection cleaning of surfaces in hospitals and other health care facilities. A disinfection without a cleaning component is not covered by this document. The reprocessing of medical devices is not covered by this document. Inventory and equipment can be cleaned (disinfection cleaning) in accordance with this document, even if they are classified as medical devices (non-critical medical devices, e. g. bed). NOTE 2 When reprocessing medical devices, reference is made to the Medical Devices Operator Ordinance (MPBetreibV; §8, paragraphs 1 and 2) and the recommendation of the Commission for Hospital Hygiene and Infection Prevention (KRINKO) at the Robert Koch-Institute (RKI) and the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices on hygiene requirements for the reprocessing of medical devices. This document does not apply to health care facilities and clinics for the treatment of animals. This document does not specify requirements for the cleaning of medicine manufacturing areas. NOTE 3 In areas in which medicine is manufactured or medical devices are reprocessed, the requirements of the Ordinance on Medicinal Products and Medical Devices also apply to cleaning. Requirements for occupational health and safety are not specified in this document. NOTE 4 For cleaning staff, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Biological Agents Ordinance, Hazardous Substances Ordinance, Workplace Ordinance, TRBA 250 and TRGS 525 are particularly relevant.
