The tape shall consist of a woven fabric sheeting impregnated with a frictioning compound (an adhesive insulating compound), cut into rolls of narrow width and wound on a core. Friction tapes shall meet the prescribed requirements such as adhesion, aged adhesion, breaking strength, breakdown voltage, parallelism, and tackiness. The specified dimensional requirements includes nominal width, thickness, and length. The aging and storage requirements as well as the test methods to determine conformance to the prescribed requirements are given.

Scope:

1.1 This specification covers friction tapes that are commonly used for protecting, and binding in place, insulation applied to joints of electrical wires and cables, and for other mechanical purposes.
